Bill was born in Madison, Wisconsin and graduated from high school outside of Milwaukee. He attended the U of Wisconsin La Crosse and earned a K-12 teaching degree in health, psychology, and coaching. During his student teaching he sensed God’s call to be a pastor and confirmed it with a year internship at a church. He then moved to St. Paul where he received his Masters of Divinity from Bethel Seminary.
Upon graduation in 1992 Bill accepted a position at First Baptist as their youth pastor. After 5 years in the position he was asked to start an alternative-style service for people who didn’t relate to traditional church. This was the beginning of what is now New Hope Community Church – an untypical church for typical people.
Bill’s wife Cherie is a speech pathologist at Cambridge Intermediate School. He has four daughters – Jamey, Kelly, Megan, and Katelyn. They live on Skogman Lake and enjoy all kinds of water sports both liquid and frozen. Bill also enjoys spending time with his family, running, biking, reading, the Packers, motorcycles, and attempting to fix things. Something no one knows about him is that he was on double probation in college!
His key to success is, “Love God first. Love others second.”
