We believe marriage is a sacred union ordained by God that joins one man and one woman together in a covenantal relationship, a relationship that is to reflect the unconditional love between Jesus and the Church.
We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage. Any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, or pornography is sinful and offensive to God and, like other areas of sin, may be subject to church discipline as determined by the board of overseers.
While the state of Minnesota recognizes “civil marriage” as a civil contract between two parties and grants them the benefits of a couple provided by law, our religious beliefs and spiritual practices regarding marriage lead us to recognize only marriages defined according to this bylaw for the purposes of church membership, church employment, church leadership, marriage solemnization, marriage-specific church classes, and other marriage-related church activities.
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. We believe hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture, the religious beliefs, nor the spiritual practices of the church.
